Toledo Museum of Art Becomes Blue Star Museum to Honor Military Personnel

The Toledo Museum of Art is among more than 600 museums nationwide participating in a National Endowment for the Arts program that is giving free admission this summer to active duty military personnel and their families. Because TMA already offers free admission to everyone, the Museum is providing free parking as well as free admission to military personnel with appropriate identification from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The national project, known as Blue Star Museums, is a joint effort of the NEA, participating museums and Blue Star Families, a national nonprofit organization that supports and connects military families.

“America’s museums are proud to join the rest of the country in thanking our military personnel and their families for their service and sacrifice,” said NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman. “I cannot imagine a better way to do that than by welcoming them in to explore and enjoy the extraordinary cultural heritage our museums present.”

Rod Bigelow, TMA interim executive director and COO, points out that military families, including families of active-duty reservists and active-duty National Guard members, often have limited time and resources to do things together as families.

“We hope that offering free parking to military personnel will encourage them to visit our Museum and enjoy some of our many summertime programs for families,” Bigelow said.
