The Toledo Museum of Art has been voted “America’s Favorite Art Museum” by the readers of Modern Art Notes, a popular blog written by Washington, DC-based art critic and writer Tyler Green. Green set up an NCAA-style competition with American museums competing against one another for online votes. The seedings of the top 64 museums were determined by Green and two of his art critic friends.
Toledo was seeded #32 in the competition and went up against #33, the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, in the first round. After winning that round in week one, TMA went up against the #1 seed, the distinguished Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Toledo’s loyal fans voted for the hometown favorite and defeated the Met. In subsequent weeks TMA went up against MOCA Los Angeles, the Isabelle Stewart Gardner Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and finally the Clark Art Institute in the finals.
More than 5,000 votes were cast and Toledo beat the Clark 76% to 24%. Many thanks to all who voted for TMA and who encouraged their friends and family members to vote. The Museum will use the win as a promotional tool in upcoming marketing activities.
