Now available in the Museum Store, is a beautiful new catalog raisonne: The Paintings of Hendrick Goltzius by TMA’s own Larry Nichols, William Hutton senior curator, European and American painting and sculpture before 1900.

This long-awaited volume is a comprehensive study of the paintings of Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1617), the most important artist in the Netherlands at the turn of the seventeenth century. Although Goltzius enjoyed international fame as a draughtsman and engraver, to his contemporaries he was equally renowned for his skill in the art of painting, which was considered the highest artistic calling. This volume on his paintings, the first since Hirschmann’s short study of 1916, finally completes a full assessment of this artist of Haarlem. The catalog is available online and in the Museum Store.

    Dear Director and Curator,

Having recently spent many hours in museums from Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra , Melbourne and Adelaide, your exhibition was a real treat, a small delicious slice of what is in new Aboriginal art. And what perfect timing! The movie, The Sapphires, is playing in Ann Arbor and four million years of Australian natural and geological history on PBS. “She’s right, mate!”
