Clement Meadmore (Australian, 1929–2005), Maquette for Switchback, bronze, 1980. 27 5/8 x 15 1/16 x 9 1/8 in. Gallery 4
With this work, we highlight Clement Meadmore as one of only a few Australian artists from the Museum’s permanent collection. Once an aeronautical engineer and industrial design student at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Meadmore briefly designed furniture before ultimately creating large sculptures. Displayed in the Museum’s new sculpture galleries, Maquette for Switchback apparently gets its name from the term that describes a road with hairpin or rollercoaster-like turns.
