Due to the overwhelming response to artist Kehinde Wiley’s February 9th Masters Series appearance, the Museum has put together the following list of frequently asked questions to help you plan accordingly before you arrive for this special event. A larger than normal crowd is anticipated and keeping these things in mind will help us ensure the best experience possible for everyone. If you any additional questions, please call the Museum at 419-255-8000 ext. 7448 during Museum hours.

When is the Master Series lecture?
Thursday, February 9 at 6 p.m.

When will the Peristyle doors open for the Master Series?
The Peristyle will open to the public at 5 p.m.

Do I need to purchase a ticket to attend the Master Series lecture?
The Master Series is free, but a limited number of pre-purchased tickets are available in advance and can be purchased at  A pre-purchased ticket includes parking, a seat in a reserved section of the Peristyle, and access to the members–only preview of Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic scheduled for after the Masters Series. All other seats will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

If I purchased a ticket where do I check in?
Will call is located next to the entrance to the Peristyle’s Lower Promenade.

If I have a ticket where do I sit?
Seating in the reserved section is not assigned but is available on a first come, first served basis.  Please enter the Peristyle through the lower level, Stage Left.

Will there be a sign language interpreter at the event?
Yes, a sign language interpreter from Interlink will be in attendance for the duration of the event.

Do I have to pay for parking?
If you are a Museum member or have purchased a ticket to the lecture you do not need to pay for parking.  Bring a printed copy of your confirmation email or your membership card. They are needed to redeem your free parking.

How/when do I pay for parking?
Guests are required to pay as they enter any of the TMA parking lots. As always, members receive free parking.  Please present your membership card.

Can I view the exhibition the night of the Master Series lecture?
Only TMA members will have access to preview the exhibition after the end of the Master Series lecture. Nonmember ticket holders to the lecture will need to show their Masters Series tickets to enter the members–only preview of the exhibition.

If I am a member previewing the exhibition, can I bring guests with me?
The number of guests allowable with you are related to your membership level.  Please consult Visitor Services for specific information regarding your membership.

Can I purchase a TMA membership?
Yes.  Memberships are available for purchase at the desks in Herrick Lobby and Libbey Court.  You can also purchase a membership in the Museum Store and the in the Peristyle Lobby (only prior to the start of the lecture).

Is there another time to view the exhibition?
Yes, the exhibition is open during regular Museum hours February 10 to May 14.

    I am a member of the Detroit Institute of Arts and would like to inquire if the TMA has a reciprocal agreement which honors DIA membership cards?

    TMA and the DIA to have a reciprocal agreement between are institutions. If you are coming to tonight’s Masters Series event, you will be able to attend the member preview of the exhibition if your DIA membership is at the reciprocal level.
