The Toledo Museum of Art is planning a series of special events and programs related to the Jaume Plensa: Human Landscape exhibition while it is on view June 17-Nov. 6, 2016 in the Levis Galleries and on the Museum Grounds.
Organized by the Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art in Nashville, Tennessee, in partnership with the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, the exhibition showing in Toledo is sponsored by ProMedica, the 2016 Exhibition Program Sponsor, and made possible in part by Museum members and a sustainability grant from the Ohio Arts Council.

Exhibition Celebration: Jaume Plensa, Human Landscape

The Toledo Museum of Art’s annual block party will feature food trucks selling street snacks, performances by community groups, and the debut of the campus-wide sculpture exhibition Jaume Plensa: Human Landscape. The free festivities include a 5:30 p.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Rita B. Kern Garden and the official opening of the outdoor Play Space for children. Performances include:

Artist Talk: Jaume Plensa in Conversation with Amy Gilman

Spanish artist and sculptor Jaume Plensa talks about his life and works with Amy Gilman, associate director of the Toledo Museum of Art.

Plensa at Twilight Tours
June 30, July 28 and Aug. 15
Take an adults-only tour guided by a docent, where visitors will be given a flashlight to see the exhibition Jaume Plensa: Human Landscape in a new way – in the dark. Plensa at Twilight tours will take place June 30, July 28, and August 25. From 7 to 8 p.m., enjoy a happy hour, and from 8 to 9 p.m., embark on the tour. Tickets are $15 per person for members, $20 for non-members, and include one drink. Space is limited; reserve your spot in advance by calling the information desk at 419-255-8000 ext. 7448 or by purchasing in-person during Museum hours.
Exhibition Talk: Scaling Sculptures: Exploring Artistic Playgrounds

A new generation of playgrounds have been developed by artists that encourage physical activity, creativity and interactivity. These playgrounds double as sculptures that are both aesthetic objects and functional for play.Toledo Museum of Art Mellon Fellow Christina Larson looks at a selection of these artistic playgrounds artistic playgrounds as functional sculpture.
