The Toledo Museum of Art has been named the Best Ohio Attraction in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest. Another local visitor destination, the National Museum of the Great Lakes, received second place honors.

A panel of experts, including editors from USA TODAY and along with travel contributors to both publications, came together to pick the initial 20 nominees. The top 10 winners were determined by popular vote in an online competition.

Many of Ohio’s most recognizable attractions were nominated, including Cedar Point, Hocking Hills State Park, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Cincinnati Museum Center.

“Toledo is a destination for arts, culture, and history,” said Brian Kennedy, Toledo Museum of Art director and CEO. “We are grateful to everyone who voted on behalf of TMA. It is an honor to be at the top of this list with the National Museum of the Great Lakes, another one of Toledo’s finest cultural institutions.”

Chris Gillcrist, National Museum of the Great Lakes executive director added, “Finishing one spot behind the Toledo Museum of Art in the USA Today 10Best competition is by no means a disappointment. Being associated with an organization with the history of success of the art museum is a great honor.”

The USA TODAY’s 10Best lists provide travel content of top attractions, things to see and do, and restaurants for top destinations in the U.S. and around the world.
