The Toledo Museum of Art Ambassadors is a volunteer group that donates time and other resources to advocate on TMA’s behalf throughout the community.
Established in 1957 as the Museum Aides, the group’s initial goals were to educate TMA members about the collection, volunteer as host for major exhibitions, and organize an annual membership drive.
As time passed, the Ambassadors grew in membership and continued to prove their value to the Museum through new projects such as establishing Collector’s Corner, beautifying the campus through the floral and garden committee, and creating an award-winning cookbook, Art Fare, which connects recipes with works of art in the collection. The group also created the ArTravel program, the Speakers Bureau, and the Museum Library League.
As the needs of the Museum change, the Ambassadors support the organization in new and exciting ways. For example, the group currently sponsors the Masters Series lectures held in the Peristyle. These free public programs feature renowned artists, scholars, and performers who are invited to share their talents with the community.
