When complete, Dans L’Intimité des Personnages Illustres (The Private World of Famous People) is composed of 12 albums forming a collection of photographic portraits of famous French men and women of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, each with handwritten text reproduced by lithography. The pictures are a mixture of candid, posed, and deathbed portraits of such luminaries as Victor Hugo, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimbaud, Georges Braque, and Paul Gauguin. Displayed here are two of the volumes covering the years 1845 through 1900.
