This is a rare impression of Souvenir de Toscane before it was published in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts in 1875. Though dated to about 1845, most impressions from it were not printed until at least 1865 (like the print on the next page). An inscription at the lower left, not currently visible due to exhibition framing, suggests that this is a unique impression, probably printed about 1845 as a test to allow the artist to analyze the image before making subsequent changes.
