Louis-Emile Durandelle specialized in photographing architecture, especially the public buildings in Paris. This architectural fragment is from the Paris Opera House. In 1876, Durandelle finished a ten-year survey of the sculptural decorations of the Beaux-Arts style Paris Opera House designed by architect Charles Garnier that he published in a portfolio of albumen prints.
