Emerson is considered a leading 19th-century landscape photographer, especially of genre scenes of rural life. His best works feature the inhabitants and scenery of the East Anglia region of England. This is one of 40 platinum prints that the artist made for his series Life and Landscape on the Norfolk Broads, published in 1886.
