Henri Fantin-Latour used lithography to bring his sensuous, brooding, and dreamlike drawings to completion—“my drawings are my lithographs.” His technique consisted of working with transfer paper placed on a variety of textured surfaces, creating a number of different textures in the final print. His lithographs, inspired by the music of Wagner, Berlioz, Brahms, and Schumann, were largely responsible for generating a renewed enthusiasm for lithography in the 1880s.
