A number of Millet’s copper plates, including the one used to produce Shepherdess, were acquired in 1904 by the American publisher Frederick Keppel, who did much to familiarize the American public with French prints. Keppel published this impression, printed after Millet’s death; after this edition the plate was cancelled, making further copies impossible.
