Charles Meryon
French, 1821–1868

Molière’s Tomb (Tombeau de Molière) from Etchings on Paris (Eaux-fortes sur Paris)

Etching, 1854
Museum purchase, 1921.165

This is the last print in Meryon’s Etchings on Paris. No one knows why Meryon chose the tomb of Molière (1622–1673), France’s great writer of comedies, as the end of the series.
