A fine complement to Bald Man in Profile Right (on the previous page), Old Woman Sleeping is another portrait study of the aged. The woman leans on an open book. One hand supports her head while the other holds a pair of spectacles. It is possible that the artist used his extensive collection of antique clothing and accessories to pose an acquaintance or family member.
