Emily Blessing

Draped in beautiful laces,
Always composed faces.
Elegantly dressed,
All emotions suppressed.
What was I thinking then?
Did I believe this life was perfection?
Or did I see the deception?
Now our treatment fills me with disgust —
Our role was monstrously unjust.
Engaging in pointless, colorless chatter,
Our words never really mattered.
We agreed, always believing,
We weren’t only there to give birth to the next king.
I will not be a suppressed wife;
My daughter will have a better life.
