The Destruction of Tyre
Gallery 31

Joseph Poddany

The noise is deafening:
Waves crash on the walls and shores of the city,
Wind howls like banshees,
Thunder booms like a massive bass drum, amplified by 1000
Terrified shrieking citizens, barking dogs, wailing infants –
Their sheer volume overpowers all other senses except sight.
Once proud walls crumble from the force of the waves,
Trees bend, then break in the wind,
Lightning tears jaggedly through the inky black sky.
It illuminates the devastated city,
The city whose beautiful buildings now lie in ruins.
These are dramatic demonstrations of God’s tremendous and terrible power.
