The Ninth Congressional District Invitational High School Art Exhibition

Overview

For over 40 years, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur has partnered with the Arts Commission to support the arts in Ohio. Each year since 1983, high school art educators in Ohio's Ninth Congressional District have been invited to submit student artwork to this competitive exhibition. Hundreds of students' artwork has been seen and celebrated by the community. Young artists have won thousands of dollars in awards because of the generous support of this show.

The competition is part of “Artistic Discovery,” a nationwide activity initiated by members of the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize and encourage young people’s artistic creativity. Works exhibited include paintings, drawings, collage, prints (lithograph, silk screen, monotype, woodcut, and intaglio methods), mixed media, photography and computer-generated art. The first-place entry of the competition has their artwork placed on exhibition in Washington, D.C. for one year. The two runners-up display their artwork in Congresswoman Kaptur’s offices.

The Arts Commission thanks Congresswoman Kaptur for her continued commitment to the arts and our area youth.
