Enjoy live music performances in the galleries, participate in gallery hunts, and watch both professional and amateur ice sculptors craft impressive outdoor statues made of snow during the Toledo Museum of Art’s annual celebration The Great Art Escape. Every year, the Museum’s galleries are filled with free festivities during the winter break for visitors of all ages.
This year, The Great Art Escape coincides with Toledo Walleye Winterfest, presented by ProMedica, which will take place Dec. 26 – Jan. 4. Toledo Walleye Winterfest is a community event benefiting the entire Toledo Region. Many organizations are planning to participate, including: the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, Imagination Station, The Toledo Symphony, The Toledo Zoo, the Toledo Museum of Art, the MetroParks, the Valentine Theater and area colleges and universities.
On Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28 during regular Museum hours four professional snow sculptors will be at work on the Museum’s front terrace creating large scale sculptures inspired by the TMA collection. Watch these icy masters turn 4′ x 4′ x 6′ blocks of snow into artistic masterpieces as they carve and shape the snow over the course of the weekend. At 3 p.m. each afternoon enjoy a daily demonstration and Q&A session with the artists from Ice Creations.
