Eye

A hieroglyph of a human eye can represent an eye, but can also mean “doing” or “a person who does.” Eyes were considered organs of action, not only of passive seeing. Believed to hold strong healing and protective powers, the Eye of Horus, or wedjat eye, was a central symbol in Egyptian life.

Look for the eye on the vertical strip of hieroglyphs (and several other places) on the Cartonnage of Ankh-Tesh in this gallery.
