Dancers at the Barre

Soft, rigid lines dance across the stage
My mind wanders away from the steady barre
Flowing green bursts sketching through my brain
Blended edges meet inflexible corners as I fly through the air
Fluidity is greeted with solid, fixed positions

The firm wood of the Barre kisses my palm
Snapping out of my imaginings, I need to stretch
Practice, practice, preparation, and practice
Soon the spotlight will cast its glow on my skin
My presence breaking the darkness and silence
The outline of my body becoming the true display of art
Bend, straight, breathe in, breathe out
Let go of the steady piece of wood encircling the walls
Making my way to the uneven charcoal floor
Beginning my journey to center stage

The outline of my body becoming the true display of art
Bend, straight, breathe in, breathe out
Let go of the steady piece of wood encircling the walls
Making my way to the uneven charcoal floor
Beginning my journey to center stage
