Public Tours

Get the inside scoop on the TMA collection by joining one of our public tours. Led by a Museum Docent, tours run 30 minutes (except where noted) and are—as always— free of charge. No reservations are needed for public tours—just join right in. They are typically held on Friday evenings, and on Saturday and Sunday early afternoons. Check the calendar for times and themes.

In addition to tours for the general public, we offer these tours for special audiences:

Family Time Tours

Most Sundays at 2 p.m.
Kids and their adult partners tour works of art related to the Family Center’s art project that week, then roll up their sleeves back at the Center. Check the calendar for times and themes.

Meet Me at TMA

Once/month on Saturdays at 1:30 p.m.
For those with mild memory loss and their companions. Cosponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter.

Custom Tours

Experience the Museum with family, friends, and colleagues by scheduling a private, custom tour with a Docent. Tours last about one hour, and you can choose from a variety of topics.

While admission to the Museum is free, the following rates apply to private tours: 10–20 visitors=$50; 21–40 visitors=$100; 41–60 visitors=$150. Larger groups can be accommodated on a similar rate schedule.

To arrange for an adult group tour, complete the Adult Group Tour Request Form.

Pen to Palette Tours

Pen to Palette is a collaboration between the Toledo Museum of Art and local libraries and private book clubs to integrate intriguing books with the TMA collection. Pen to Palette can bring books alive in new ways through examination of actual objects referenced, studies of period art, or explorations of cultures featured in the book being read.

Museum Docents are often voracious readers themselves. Therefore, we are pleased to offer specific fiction- or non-fiction-related tours that connect with book groups’ readings. Fall, winter, and spring programs are available. These tours are free to public libraries. For private book clubs there is a Docent fee. See the rates listed under Custom Tours.

Registration and pre-planning are required. Registration is only online. Click form to the left.
