The Great Art Escape Returns to the Toledo Museum of Art

Celebrate the season with a diverse array of activities, events and performances during the Great Art Escape, which returns to the Toledo Museum of Art from Dec. 26 through 30 and Jan. 1, 2019. The Great Art Escape is supported in part by Taylor Cadillac.

Activities include Peristyle performances, Dutch organ concerts, music performances, glassblowing demonstrations, glass art workshops, Family Center activities, drawing in the galleries, family studio workshops and more. A pop-up café serving hot drinks and sweet treats will be available in Libbey Court.

Peristyle performances include the infectious Southeast Asian experience provided by Aha! Indian Dance, El Corazon de Mexico Ballet Folkorico, JP Dynasty, the Ardan Academy of Irish Dance, and the Greater Toledo International Youth Orchestra.

Dutch Organ concerts will take place at 1 p.m. in Gallery 24 each day of the Great Art Escape and feature a variety of organists.

There will be a frosty glass workshops on Saturday, Dec. 29 and Sunday, Dec. 30. Fun for all ages, participants will apply stickers and decals to a clear glass or mug that will be frosted to reveal your own unique design. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members and includes one child and an accompanying adult. Register in advance online at toledomuseum.org. Throughout the Great Art Escape, families are invited to explore their creativity by creating original artwork inspired by the Museum’s collection. Sign up for one of these project-focused workshops and get a taste of TMA’s studio art classes. Registration is $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers and includes one child and accompanying adult. Stay warm with seasonal drinks, test your knowledge at trivia, and shake off the winter blues with dancing and live music during the Snow Globe Social on Friday, Dec. 28 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Glass Pavilion. Admission is free; cash bar is available.

Start off the new year right by participating in (Re)New Year’s Day, a one-of-a-kind experience inspired by art, yoga, movement and meditation. Then meet and mingle in the GlasSalon to enjoy refreshing, locally-sourced beverages and design your own vision board. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat. The event is free, but registration is encouraged. Register at toledomuseum.org. (Re)New Year's Day is presented by Circle, the Toledo Museum of Art's affinity group dedicated to inclusive and innovative programming that engages new audiences with the Museum.
