More than 4,000 tickets to Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water have been reserved during the installation’s ticket presale period. The final day for the general public to reserve tickets before the exhibition opens is Monday, Dec. 2.

After Monday, tickets will be released Monday, Dec. 16 and each Monday thereafter for the upcoming week. The installation opens at the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA), Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019.

"During the presale period, the first two weekends sold out and there is limited availability in December,” said Rebecca Nowacki, the Museum’s manager of visitor engagement. “If you are interested in viewing this exhibition, you are highly encouraged to reserve or purchase your tickets on Monday, Dec. 2. We expect very few tickets to be available on a week-to-week basis once the installation opens."

TMA members receive a fixed number of free tickets based on their membership level and have been able to reserve those tickets for the past several weeks. Once members have reserved their free tickets, they are eligible to purchase as many as six additional general admission tickets. Both members and nonmembers can purchase up to six general admission tickets per transaction. General admission tickets are $5.

Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water brings to Toledo the unique vision of one of the world’s most influential contemporary artists. Yayoi Kusama, who experienced hallucinations as a child, uses her artwork as a means to express and communicate her particular psychological world.

Visitors will experience 60 seconds alone in the room, which uses lights, mirrors and water to transport viewers to a space that seems endlessly expansive. This site-specific installation, which runs through April 26, 2020, is made possible through a generous loan from the Whitney Museum of Art.

Tickets can be reserved Monday, Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. EST online at For those who wish to purchase by phone, Museum staff will be available or at (419) 255-8000 ext. 7448 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST.

Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water is presented by ProMedica with additional support from Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP and the Ohio Arts Council.
