Registration deadline for Toledo Museum of Art youth summer camps is May 27
Registration for summer youth camps at the Toledo Museum of Art closes Monday, May 27. Applications are also available for teens interested in volunteering for the teen work study program, which offers free art class registration in exchange for volunteer hours as a teacher’s assistant. The deadline for work study volunteers is Sunday, May 19.
“Art camps are a wonderful way to provide educational and fun activities during the summer months,” said Studio Program Manager Sara Daniels. “These one-week classes, which are available to students ages 5 to 18 in either half-day or full-day options, provide engaging opportunities in a variety of media including drawing, glassblowing, painting, digital media, and more.”
The summer camps run each week from June 10 through July 26 with the exception of the Fourth of July week. The morning session runs from 9 a.m. to noon and the afternoon session runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Students attending both sessions can stay at the Museum for a supervised lunch hour.
The mission of the Museum to provide art education extends to training the next generation of art educators, added Daniels.
TMA’s teen work study program offers youth an opportunity to explore art education from two different viewpoints— as a teacher’s assistant and as a student.
“The work study program provides students valuable life experience through the application, interview, and selection process for a volunteer teaching assistant position,” Daniels explained. “Those who are selected and commit to volunteering are rewarded with free registration for their own art class.”
