Registration for Toledo Museum of Art youth summer camps and adult art classes opens March 28

School and University Resources for Teachers

Registration opens Thursday, March 28 for summer youth camps and adult art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art. Applications are also available for teens interested in volunteering for the teen work study program, which offers free art class registration in exchange for volunteer hours as a teacher’s assistant.

“Art camps are a wonderful way to provide educational and fun activities during the summer months,” said Studio Program Manager Sara Daniels. “These one-week classes, which are available to students ages 5 to 18 in either half-day or full-day options, provide engaging opportunities in a variety of media including drawing, glassblowing, painting, digital media, and more.”

The summer camps run each week from June 10 through July 26 with the exception of the Fourth of July week. The morning session runs from 9 a.m. to noon and the afternoon session runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Students attending both sessions can stay at the Museum for a supervised lunch hour.

And because you are never too old to learn, TMA also offers a range of adult classes in convenient weekday, weeknight, and weekend hours this summer. The summer sessions run May through August and include multi-week classes and shorter workshops.

“Art classes are a great time to try something new,” Daniels said. “The Museum’s adult classes have options for beginners who have always wanted to explore an interest in drawing, painting, jewelry making and more, as well as advanced classes for those who are building on previous art classes or experience.”

The mission of the Museum to provide art education extends to training the next generation of art educators, added Daniels.

TMA’s teen work study program offers youth an opportunity to explore art education from two different viewpoints— as a teacher’s assistant and as a student.

“The work study program provides students valuable life experience through the application, interview, and selection process for a volunteer teaching assistant position,” Daniels explained. “Those who are selected and commit to volunteering are rewarded with free registration for their own art class.”

Registration deadline for summer youth camps, which begin June 10, is May 27. Registration deadline for Session 1 adult classes, which begin the week of May 12, is April 28. Registration deadline for Session 2 adult classes, which begin the week of June 23, is June 9. Scholarships are available. Visit toledomuseum.org/education/classes to register.
