Toledo Museum of Art members will have the first opportunity to reserve tickets for the special installation Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water, which opens Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, in Canaday Gallery. Museum members will receive a fixed number of free tickets based on their membership level and will be able to reserve those as well as purchase additional tickets during a pre-sale period before tickets go on sale to the general public.

“Based on the overwhelming response to the Museum’s announcement about Fireflies on the Water, we expect this to be a very popular exhibition. Providing early access to tickets is a benefit TMA can offer to its current  members and as a way to encourage people to renew or sign up for a new membership,” said Rebecca Nowacki, the Museum’s manager of visitor engagement. “Because TMA does not benefit from city or county tax dollars, the success and growth of the Museum depends largely on dedicated individuals and businesses, who support our purpose of art education.”

Memberships start at $40 for a senior, $75 for a senior couple, $75 for an individual and $100 for a family. Each level of membership offers free parking, free admission to ticketed exhibitions, and discounts on art classes as well as discounts at the Museum Café and the Museum Store. Reciprocal ($300) and Supporting ($600) memberships offer additional discounts and invitations to special events.

“A TMA membership is a great value, and it can pay for itself with as few as two visits to the Museum,” Nowacki said.

Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water brings to Toledo the unique vision of one of the world’s most influential contemporary artists. Yayoi Kusama, who experienced hallucinations as a child, uses her artwork as a means to express and communicate her particular psychological world.

Visitors will experience 60 seconds alone in the room, which uses lights, mirrors and water to transport viewers to a space that seems endlessly expansive.

Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water tickets can be reserved online at tickets.toledomuseum.org or by phone at (419) 255-8000 ext. 7448 during the presale period, which begins Nov. 11.
