Robert Longo’s Untitled triptych has been a mainstay in TMA’s Modern and Contemporary galleries since its accession in 2005. The work has a plywood substructure, with supports the cast aluminum bonding, painted with an automobile lacquer. Aging and adhesion issues between the paint and substrate have resulted in areas of cracked, flaking, and blanching paint. The treatment of this work will involve investigation into treatment options including consolidation and reintegration of the existing paint layer, or full scale repainting of the work. Treatment steps will be done in consultation with the artist.
